Appointed statutory operator of this new greenfield venture to commence underground mining off the existing Mt Arthur Open Cut highwall. Tasks associated with the start up of the new mine included:
Provision of full management team and recruitment of workforce, procurement of underground equipment and surface infrastructure, driveage of two stone drifts totalling 1200m using the company’s Mitsui S200 roadheader, Coal driveage totalling 6000m.

As appointed statutory operator LDO played a major role in the project by assisting with mine design, department and government approval process, mine planning and production scheduling. Activities undertaken were:
Main ventilation fan installation and commissioning, gantry and drift belt installation and commissioning, construction of office complex and temporary infrastructure, deployment of whole workforce, drilling and blasting of 200mpa sill using permitted and non-permitted explosives, portal construciton, ventilation, belts and gas drainage.

LDO has been engaged with the task of developing an executable mine plan and all supporting engineering documentation, for an underground longwall operation within the Heavener tenements, located across the borders of Arkansas and Oklahoma.
The deliverables include submission and approval of relevant management plans to the Mine Safety and Health Authority (MSHA) as the Federal Mines Regulator in the USA. Although the project is still in the approval phase, it is an exciting opportunity for LDO, to again demonstrate our ability to take a project from inception to operation.
The work to date for the project has included mine design, financial modelling, scheduling, ventilation modelling, geotechnical design, gas drainage design, mining equipment specification and surface infrastructure layout.
LDO will be charged as managers for initial start up of production of a punch longwall operation.
Installation and commissioning of the first Chinese manufactured longwall mining system into Australia at LDO’s Chain Valley Colliery on the shores of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales.
From planning, designing, installation, commissioning to full operation the project was undertaken within an 11 month timeframe. The implementation of this system has proven to be hugely successful and demonstrates the Group’s experience and expertise in the design and standards applied during the manufacturing process.
